MUSIC

Music at Yew Tree Primary School

At Yew Tree Primary School, we believe music is an important part of every child’s education. Our music curriculum gives all children – especially those who may have fewer opportunities outside school – the chance to develop knowledge, confidence, and a love of music.

Children experience a wide range of musical styles and learn about famous composers and pieces of music. This helps them understand the history of music and the features of different genres.

What does music look like at Yew Tree?

  • At Yew Tree Primary School, we follow the Kapow Primary Music Scheme to ensure our lessons are engaging, progressive, and meet the aims of the National Curriculum. Kapow provides a clear structure for developing musical skills, including listening, performing, composing, and understanding musical notation. The scheme introduces children to a wide variety of musical styles and cultures, helping them build confidence and creativity while developing a deep appreciation of music.

Special Experiences

  • Year 2 visit a live performance of The Snowman – combining music and literature.
  • Year 4 take part in the ‘Come and Play with The Halle’ concert at Bridgewater Hall, performing alongside professional musicians.
  • Children also enjoy concerts with the Halle Orchestra and have opportunities to perform for an audience during their time at school.

We aim to make music exciting, inclusive, and inspiring for every child.
